January is a historically quiet concert month. Not so for 2014. Some terrific shows on the schedule warrant your consideration. Our suggestions:
Friday, January 10 – Songs Molina: A Memorial Electric Co at Radio Radio — Jason Molina, who passed away in 2013, was a unique and unmistakeable songwriter. This show — hitting just four cities — pays tribute to his legacy. Sure to be a memorable one.
Thursday, January 16 – Diarrhea Planet at Hoosier Dome — The name of the band might give you pause but their music is pure fury. DP return to the Hoosier Dome for another round of rock catharsis.
Friday, January 17 – Peter Bradley Adams at Birdy’s — Singer/songwriter Adams has been crafting great stuff for more than a decade. Worth a trip to Birdy’s.
Saturday, January 18 – Kopecky Family Band at Do317 Lounge — Kopecky Family Band is a frequent guest in the circle city, and its fan-base continues to grow. Nice opportunity to see them at the Lounge in Fountain Square.
Saturday, January 25 – The Easthills at White Rabbit Cabaret — Local band the Easthills continue to build a name for themselves. Here they take center stage for a night of rock ‘n’ roll fun.
Tuesday, January 28 – Phosphorescent w/ Caveman at The Vogue — Phosphorescent‘s Muchacho made many year-end best-of lists. Caveman are a fantastic opener. A highlight of the month.
Thursday, January 30 – Neko Case w/ Thao and the Get Down Stay Down at the Vogue — Been waiting a while to see Ms. Case return to Indiana. Her new record is spectacular. This one’s a can’t-miss show.
Friday, January 31 — Lily and Madeleine at Do317 Lounge — The Indy duo are riding some great national exposure. Yet another chance to catch them live.
Friday, January 31 — Swear & Shake w/ Rodeo Ruby Love at Radio Radio — Prefer a more boisterous Friday night? Head over to Radio Radio for this killer double-bill.
